Bridging Generations: Putnoe Scout Group Welcomes St Andrews Scouts
In a move that ensures the continuity of Scouting traditions, the St Andrews Scout Group has officially become part of the Putnoe Scout Group. This transition promises to keep the spirit of Scouting alive at the historic Polhill Avenue Scout Hut, a place where young adventurers have honed their skills since 1956.
For nearly seven decades, the St Andrews Scout Group has been a cornerstone of the community, teaching countless youths essential skills such as fire-lighting, knot-tying, raft-building, meal preparation, teamwork, and leadership. Its rich history has seen many of its members grow into the respected leaders of today, both within the Scout community and beyond.
The recent closure of the St Andrews Scout Group marks the end of an era, but not the end of its legacy. The Putnoe Scout Group is honoured to take up the mantle, breathing new life into the Polhill Avenue Scout Hut. This cherished venue will continue to be a vibrant hub of Scouting activities, fostering the growth and development of young people in the area.
From now on, the Putnoe Scout Group will hold its meetings at both the Putnoe Scout Hut on Putnoe Heights and the newly adopted Scout Hut on Polhill Avenue. In a touching tribute, the Polhill Avenue location will soon be renamed in memory of Colin “Coyote” Perkins, who played a pivotal role in both the St Andrews and Putnoe Scout Groups.
“This merger symbolizes the unyielding dedication to Scouting in our community,” said a spokesperson for the Putnoe Scout Group. “We are committed to preserving the legacy of the St Andrews Scout Group while forging new memories and adventures for future generations.”
